You may be feeling down and unmotivated, struggling to maintain deep and intimate relationships, or you may be suffering from nightmares, intense anxiety, or dissociation and numbing. You might be questioning your sexuality, hating your job, terrified about the state of the world, or just wondering, "Is this all there is to life?"
I can help. My style is...
Embodied

I welcome the body and our experience of our bodies into therapy. Throughout session I will be checking in and making sure you are feeling embodied and engaged, and if not, I will guide you through somatic exercises to help you stay within your window of tolerance. I'm also trained in EMDR, a popular somatic method of trauma treatment.

If you have trouble "feeling feelings," we can start there! But it all begins with the body.
Relational

People usually come to therapy because their relationships are struggling, whether it's their relationship to others, to themselves, or the world.
We come into being via relationships. I will use the relationship you and I develop as a laboratory to help us better understand your relationships outside of session. Our relationship will also be a new kind of experience where you can relearn how to trust, feel deeply, and express your needs, desires and boundaries with a safe person.

Psychodynamic

I believe people's minds and ways of being are conditioned by early experiences with caregivers. It's like our parents constructed the shape of our garden, filled it with soil, and watered the seeds. Now we are left to deal with whatever plants have grown. Sometimes the plants are beautiful, but often they are starving for water, sunlight, or a specific kind of nutrient.

I will often ask you about your past, about your parents and family, with the goal of helping you map out what kind of garden you have inherited and what it needs to thrive.
Social justice and liberation oriented

You occupy a particular social position within society, and your strengths and wounds are very much informed by race, gender, class, and sexual orientation (as are mine!). As a white therapist, I don't shy away from discussing race and culture in session. Helping folks navigate their complex identities and even helping people of color process and express anger towards whiteness is a passion and privilege.
Real

You may have found me through TikTok or Instagram, or through one of the books I've published. If so, you know that I'm a real person with quirks, neuroses, and a personality. I try not to be opaque and distant as a therapist; if you wanna know what I'm thinking, or where I'm going on vacation, just ask! You can always trust that I will be real and honest with you, and if I slip up, I'm dedicated to making authentic repair.

Also, I'm funny. Seriously though.
